Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?

We do everything from basic setup to complete archival restoration of stringed instruments.

Can you fix my instrument?

We’ll need to see it in person (but probably, yes). Please bring it into our store and we’ll take a look on our diagnostic bench!

Will you charge me for a diagnostic?

Nope. We do not charge for diagnostics and are happy to have you bring your instrument into our store for a complete repair assessment.
If you want an insurance appraisal, we do charge for that work, but if you simply want to know what is wrong and what is needed to fix it, we are happy to give you our assessment gratis.

Do you give repair quotes?

We give repair estimates. Because every instrument (and every repair) is different, we do not use cookie-cutter pricing policies, or give exact repair quotes. You will never hear us say, “frets are X, cracks are Y, and necks are Z.”
We charge for materials and our hands-on labor time. If we can complete your project for less than our estimate, we absolutely will!

How long will it take?

The time it takes to complete repairs varies by the job. Some repairs are simple and easy to complete quickly. Others are laborious and require painstaking attention to detail over many months.

We have an extremely full repair queue at all times.

We do not work on instruments in the order they are received. If we did, it would take a year for someone to have their strings changed. Rather, we fit small projects in amongst our long term restorations. This allows us to complete small projects in a reasonable time frame, while still progressing on longer term projects.

Because of the structure of our workshop and the nature of our repair process, we cannot “save your place in line.” You must bring in your instrument and leave it with us in order for it to enter our queue along with all the others, but we will work with you as best we can if you have specific time concerns.

With the amount of work in our shop, believe us, we are just as motivated as you are to get your instrument complete and returned to you, however, we will never sacrifice the quality of our work for time reasons.

To get a time frame estimate on your instrument, please bring it into our store for assessment.
